Netflix has released the newest teaser for their latest anime series, Skull Island. As a part of their launch of the MonsterVerse, the streaming service and Legendary Television have teamed up for a collaboration that would expand upon King Kong’s mythology through the use of anime storytelling.
Teaser is putting it lightly when it casually hints at how massive the show will be by hinting at all of the monsters and giant beasts vying to be the alpha on Skull Island as humanity can do nothing but watch — or avoid being prey. A voiceover tries to set the tone on how frightening this place could be by asking: “do you know what they call this place?” Of course, he — or at least the way this teaser is cut — answers that question himself.
It’s unclear why these explorers would ever want to visit a place like this. However, based on the plot synopsis, they don’t have much choice as their heroism piques their intrigue about the mysterious island. What they don’t know is that not only is this home to some bizarre creatures, it is also home to the king of the beasts, King Kong.
The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with Nicolas Cantu (Dragons Rescue Riders: Heroes of the Sky, The Fabelmans) lending his voice to the protagonist, Charlie. Joining him are talented voice actors Mae Whitman (Family Guy, DC Super Hero Girls) as Annie, Darren Barnett (Never Have I Ever, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) as Mike, Benjamin Bratt as Cap (Poker Face, Coco), and Betty Gilpin (Mrs. Davis, Glow) as Irene. Together, they bring these vibrant characters to life and embark on a captivating journey.

Skull Island is created, written and executive produced by Brian Duffield (Cocaine Bear, Love and Monsters). Jacob Robinson, Brad Graeber, Jen Chambers, and Thomas Tull also serve as executive producers. The animation is expertly crafted by Powerhouse Animation, acclaimed for their work on hit series such as Castlevania and Blood of Zeus.
All episodes of Skull Island debut on June 22, 2023.
