Nimona is on its way to being released on Netflix this week. Based off of ND Stevenson’s 2015 graphic novel of the same name, the film follows Ballister Boldheart, a knight framed for murder. With everyone in the kingdom having turned their backs on him — even his former flame, Ambrosius Goldenloin — Ballister does whatever he can to clear his name, with a little help from Nimona; a zany, unapologetic shapeshifter.
Recently, The Nerds of Color got to speak with several people from the creative team of Nimona; including directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, co-producer (and author of the graphic novel) Stevenson, and stars Chloë Grace Moretz (Nimona), Riz Ahmed (Ballister), and Eugene Lee Yang (Ambrosius). They all spoke thoughtfully about the journey of making the film happen, the voice acting that went into bringing the characters to life, and how resonate the story and themes are in the present day.
Nimona will be available to stream on Netflix on June 30.
