Discussing ‘Monarch’ with Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, & Elisa Lasowski

The legacy of monsters begins with the creation of an organization: Monarch. Dedicated to studying and monitoring titan activity on the planet, the fictional Monarch has been a staple of Legendary’s MonsterVerse since its first installment, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla back in 2014.

But narratively, the origins and mythology of Monarch date back to the 1950s, founded by the characters Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto), Bill Randa (Anders Holm), and Lee Shaw (Wyatt and Kurt Russell), and continue to present day via agents Tim (Joe Tippett) and Duvall (Elisa Lasowski). And recently we were given the opportunity to speak with Yamamoto, Holm, Tippett, and Lasowski about their roles in the new Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters!

Five episodes in and the compelling spin-off series has given us a lot more information about the organization behind the secrets of Godzilla, Kong, and the Hollow Earth. And while Yamamoto’s and Holm’s part of the story gives us the insight into the formation of the group, as well as a compelling human story about family, Tippett’s and Lasowski’s characters show us what’s become of Monarch, connecting the events of the past to the present. Getting to sit down with all four of them to discuss their roles and the heart of the series was a true honor!
