Get ready folks, because the game is once more afoot! Daniel Craig’s ever charming southern gentleman detective, Benoit Blanc, is back! And so is the amazing Rian Johnson for the third installment in the Knives Out mystery series, and today we got a title for it!
After the commercial and critical successes of both Oscar nominated films, Knives Out and Glass Onion, Johnson set out to work on the third Benoit Blanc mystery for Netflix. Following the release of the first film theatrically by Lionsgate, Netflix paid Johnson a sum of $469M for the rights to the next Knives Out films. And next year, we are seeing the release of the third one, now titled Wake Up Dead Man!
Johnson, himself, took to social media to reveal the title:
The plotline and most of the cast are, of course, a mystery. But one thing that is for certain is that Craig will be reprising his role as Blanc. There will likely be murder involved. Whether or not there’s any connection to the previous movies, or (similar to Glass Onion) this will be another one off adventure (no problems there!) also remains to be seen. That being said, given the consistent quality between both movies, and Johnson’s ability to write one hell of a wonderful, subversive screenplay, I have no doubt this movie will live up to the amazing quality of its predecessors. Consider me intrigued and excited!
UPDATE 6/4: It’s now being reported via Deadline that Wake Up Dead Man has its first major cast members announced (outside Craig, of course). The publication has confirmed Thomas Haden Church, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington (Scandal), Andrew Scott (Ripley, All of Us Strangers), Josh O’Connor (Challengers) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War, Alien: Romulus) have officially joined the upcoming Benoit Blanc sequel! We’ll have more updates about the cast as new members are announced!
