What a year it’s been for Osgood Perkins! The horror filmmaker has (to paraphrase the words of Gambit) absolutely made a hell of a name for himself with one of the most successful films this year, Longlegs. To follow up his incredible hit, Perkins has unveiled the teaser trailer for his next terrifying thriller: an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, The Monkey.
For those unfamiliar with the story “The Monkey,” King’s short revolves around a cursed wind up monkey toy, that is linked to the mysterious deaths of anyone who comes into contact with it. How anyone could possibly hope to adapt an abstract concept like this is anyone’s guess. But apart from filmmaker Mike Flannagan, I’d be willing to bet Perkins will do a terrific and horrifying job with this, just as he had with Longlegs.

As he did with Longlegs, Perkins is teaming up with Neon. However, this time, they have an extra helping of spooky within the crew, as the film is also being produced by horror hit-maker extraordinaire, James Wan! And based on all of the truly disturbing, moody, tense imagery we’re seeing in the trailer, I have a feeling his follow up to Longlegs is going to be equally as freaky!
The film stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell and Sarah Levy.
The Monkey hits theaters February 2025!
