If you are a hardcore Batman fan, or even grew up with Batman: The Animated Series, then the name Rupert Thorne should ring a bell. With Creature Commandos coming out, James Gunn has decided to bring the character back as a welcome addition to the DCU’s lore. And we were given the opportunity to speak with the man behind the voice: Benjamin Byron Davis.
Rupert Thorne is the nefarious, corrupt politician and crime boss that has gone head to head with The Caped Crusader on multiple occasions. Here the character plays an integral part in the creation of Task Force M’s glowing skeleton, Doctor Phosphorous. Honestly, considering we’ve very recently seen convicted criminals being elected into politics, the timing couldn’t be more perfect to bring this character into the DC Universe mix. The idea of Rupert Thorne and his ties to Phosphorous’ origins on the show genuinely emphasize the idea that monsters can sometimes be human, and human beings can sometimes be true monsters (just turn on the news if you need further proof).

Thankfully we get to deconstruct these themes with Davis, and how these ideas inspired his performance as Rupert Thorne in Creature Commandos. Check it out right here:
