LEGO and Star Wars open the door for creative remixes that could never happen in the original lore. From Jaxxon and the Old Republic’s Darth Revan sharing the same space to Porgs and Purrgils mashed up into a galactic chimera, fans use their imaginations to build and rebuild the galaxy far, far away in ways that are both hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt.
In our interview with the cast and crew of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past, we delve into character journeys, explore deep-cut cameos, bold reimaginings, and LEGO memories.
Following the events of the four-part miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past centers on rival brothers Sig (Gaten Matarazzo) and Dev Greebling (Tony Revolori) joining forces to defeat Jedi Bob’s (Bobby Moynihan) former master, Solitus (Dan Stevens). Together with Jedi Bob, Yesi Scala (Marsai Martin), and Servo (Michael Cusack), the brothers venture into the farthest reaches of LEGO Star Wars, discovering fragments of past galaxies and hidden corners of the saga.
We sat down with Matarazzo and Revolori to talk about the playful balance of humor and heart that LEGO allows. They also reminisced about their own LEGO memories and shared what Star Wars lore they’d love to reshape, and whether voicing a LEGO character changed their perspective on the iconic toyline.
“What I find so interesting is that when this galaxy gets reshuffled, it doesn’t change the person at their core — it just changes their circumstances and life experiences. With Dev, he’s still the same guy, but with a completely different history leading up to this point,” Matarazzo said about the emotional core of the LEGO Star Wars miniseries. “He’s been very alone throughout his life, so he’s channeled his passion, skill, and energy into darker paths. It’s fascinating to see where someone ends up without a support system. Then Sig comes in as that support, long after it seems too late.”
When it came to whether voicing a LEGO minifig changed their opinion of the iconic brick toyline. “Voicing a character in LEGO Star Wars definitely changed my opinion of LEGO,” Revolori said. “I see them as so much more now — not that they ever meant nothing to me, but I’ve gained a deeper emotional attachment to the imagination they inspire.”

In our interview with writer and executive producers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, we talk about how LEGO Star Wars offers them the opportunities to reshuffle Star Wars canon in fun ways while also experimenting with what works for the story. And, of course, we had to talk about the Jaxxon and Darth Revan cameos.
And LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past was also a chance to experiment with how far they could play with the lore and the visuals using larger-scale LEGO designs like Brick Builds and Brickheads. “On the LEGO side of things, it was things like Brickbuildz characters and Brickheadz if we were celebrating LEGO Star Wars, we wanted to see every line of product, not just minifigs and ships,” Samit said. “There are other types of LEGO sets that exist, and we wanted them to have a place too.”
Hernandez and Samit’s love of Star Wars and LEGO shines throughout these episodes as they are able to blend heart, humor, and creativity into each episode. So while the universe they’ve created allows them to reshuffle the story that we all know and love, it all comes from a place of genuine respect and affection for the Star Wars universe and the joy of building new stories brick by brick.
So, of course, this meant bringing in some characters that Star Wars comic readers may be familiar with. Deep cuts, like Jaxxon — a character that goes back almost to the beginning of Star Wars but has never been seen on screen before — gave us a unique opportunity to do,” Hernandez said. “Something we could only do on our show was bring the entire Skywalker family together, and that got us really excited to see what it’s like when the four of them are together.”

All episodes of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past debut on Disney+ on September 19, 2025.
