New Trailer for ‘Black Widow’ Arrives

Oh man. In a perfect world we would have seen this movie almost a year ago. But for obvious reasons we just couldn’t. But make no mistake, our anticipation and desires have only grown stronger.

I miss Nat. And I’ve been dying to meet Yelena. And we all need to see the insanity that is The Taskmaster. So we need this movie in whatever way possible! Thankfully, it’s finally coming to theaters and now Disney+ with Premiere Access this July!

Moment of Truth tells the never-before-seen story behind the murder of James Jordan, NBA star Michael Jordan’s father, and captures the history of the social injustice in Robeson County, North Carolina, where two teenagers, Larry Demery and Daniel Green, were charged and convicted of the crime. Veronica Lodge on The CW’s ‘Riverdale’ Deserves Better

Everyone has that one character they relate to or see themselves in; everyone searches to find someone who looks like them on screen. For me, that character is Veronica Lodge on The CW’s Riverdale, which is based on the Archie Comics characters. Despite the fact that she has had one of the most important evolutions on the show and has been there since the pilot, she is often overlooked and over hated, for no real reason besides Archie continuing to choose her.

NOC Interview: ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ Director Adam Wingard

Godzilla Vs. Kong is stomping into theaters and HBO Max today! And despite a lot of POC issues, the movie is admittedly a good time, and I’d be remiss if I said you shouldn’t see it. The spectacle and action is well worth the price of admission.

We were fortunate enough to be given the chance to interview director Adam Wingard recently, and though a lot of Adam’s work in the past has been problematic (this film included), he was still gracious enough to lend us four minutes of his time to discuss his film. I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t more I would have loved to ask, particularly when it comes to the subject of Asian representation in his films — something I plan to do so should I ever be afforded the same opportunity to sit down with him for future installments or movies. But alas, four minutes is all we were given for now.

The Case for a Sherlock Holmes Multiverse

Here is where I make canonists angry. Boom. So, Sherlock Holmes is kind of like Michael Moorcock’s ‘Eternal Champion.’ Holmes is different than a Paladin of Balance as he isn’t there to restore/maintain balance between Law and Chaos, he’s there to ensure justice in any way it needs to manifest. His mind and prowess are wonders, but his demons stop him from reaching his full potential. As great as he is, as helpful as he is, he cannot ascend past being an excellent consulting detective. He can never ascend to shining hero status. His demons can range from addiction, to misogyny, to broken and unhealthy relationships, or a combination of them all. The constant is that he wages an intense personal/internal battle in every universe. This impedes him from being nothing more than a celestial tool for those seeking redress.

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Posters Show the Starting Line-Up for The Tune Squad

Guys, the friggin’ Tune Squad is back! I never thought in 25 years I’d have said something like that, but my 10-year old self is actually really excited. Back in November 1996, the original Space Jam debuted about a week prior to Disney’s live-action 101 Dalmatians film, and has since become a frequently discussed cult classic! Man so much has changed since then! It’s 2021, and now instead we’re getting Space Jam: A New Legacy and Cruella within a month and a half of each other. Indeed, the times they are a-changin’. But I digress.

NOC Review: ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ is Giant Fun but Has Giant POC Problems

As you, our loyal readers know, The NOC was created to provide input on the pop culture stories and trends we all love, but with a perspective that assess them from the greater lens of representation for people of color; fans like you. Sometimes in my reviews, I’ll assess a movie purely from an entertainment standpoint. But sometimes, a movie will come along that honestly needs to be looked at closer with both lenses. And Godzilla Vs. Kong, of all things, is actually one of those movies. To be frank, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like this movie. From an entertainment standpoint it’s actually a huge blast! But for a film in a franchise so heavily tied to Japanese roots, and prior to this installment, honored those roots proudly, it honestly gets me a bit angry whenever I think about it. So, with your permission, and because it’s cheaper than therapy, I’d like to use this review to talk about the things I loved about the film from an entertainment standpoint, the things I disliked from an entertainment standpoint, and the things I hated from a cultural standpoint as a fellow Nerd of Color.

Grey’s Anatomy is thrilling fans with surprise appearances from all of our old favorites. Knight reprised his role as George on the beach and gave fans a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way. Chyler Leigh, who portrayed Lexie, and Sarah Drew, who portrayed April, are both set to return in future episodes as well, much to fans’ delight.

Originally called Behind the Ears, the channel’s early videos explored the making of Zoog era Disney Channel shows like The Famous Jett Jackson and short-lived Disney Broadway productions such as The Little Mermaid.
