Storm Reid Explains How ‘Missing’ Challenged Her and the Movie’s Core Themes

From the minds behind Searching comes Missing, a thrilling new roller-coaster mystery starring Storm Reid as June. The film is now playing exclusively in movie theaters.

When her mother (Nia Long) disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s (Storm Reid) search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late. Before long, her digital sleuthing leads her down a twisting rabbit hole of secrets and lies.

“I think this movie challenged me a lot. It was probably the most challenging role I’ve had thus far because the filming was so different. We were filming on computers, watches, and phones and I was a camera operator some days. I wasn’t used to that,” she explained to me. “On traditional sets, you’re so used to having a scene partner and having the camera set, and you have stage directions and marks and all of the things that I was used to. I didn’t really have much of that, so it really challenged me as an actress to intersect the technical aspects while also keeping the emotional stakes high.”

I had the chance to speak with the actress about how technology can be a double-edged sword, why she loved the script, relating to the story’s core themes, and more!
