Sydney Sweeney on Bringing ‘Immaculate’ to Life

Euphoria may not be back until at least 2025, but Sydney Sweeney is busier than ever. To celebrate the premiere of Immaculate, which hits theaters March 22, The Nerds of Color sat down with Sweeney and chatted about her latest movie, love of horror flicks, and career highlights from The White Lotus to Euphoria.

The actress recently had a massive box office success with her romantic comedy Anyone But You, which she starred in alongside Glen Powell. She first gained recognition for her roles in shows like Everything Sucks!, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Sharp Objects, to name just a few of her projects. She was also nominated for two Emmy awards for her performance in Season 1 of The White Lotus and Euphoria.

Now, Sweeney is taking on a new genre: horror. She stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a young nun who relocates to a seemingly idyllic convent in Italy and mysteriously becomes pregnant with a “miracle” child. In addition to playing the lead role, Sweeney is also a producer on the film — something she’s wanted to do for a long time.

“It’s been a lot of really hard work and ‘no’s,’ and just determination,” she reflects. “I’m in a place where I am getting the roles that I’ve always dreamt of and getting to create them myself as well. It’s really incredible. And I’m very, very lucky.”
