We interview Frederik Wiedmann, the composer of Prime Video’s Batman: Caped Crusader. He is no stranger to composing for DC animation, having done the scores for Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, The Death of Superman, Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, and much more, as well as The Dragon Prince and Star Trek: Picard.
Now, joining Bruce Timm and his team in the superb Batman: Caped Crusader, Wiedmann delves into the world of the 1940s, with jazz and noir music of the era informing his compositions. His resume already boasts variety across genres and settings, but his work in Caped Crusader cements his skilled versatility, with a magnificent opening theme to boot.
We spoke with Wiedmann about the process of composing for Caped Crusader, what lessons he brought with him from his past experiences, following in the footsteps of acclaimed Batman composer like Danny Elfman and Shirley Walker, and standing out on his own as an artist.
We also discussed how he approached certain characters’ compositions, his own thoughts on why Batman is still so important as a character, and much more. You can find our conversation at the YouTube link below.
Batman: Caped Crusader is now streaming on Prime Video.
