A New Silver Surfer Arrives with a New Trailer for ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’

Prepare yourselves because Galactus is coming! The herald of Galactus has come to this world to inform us that tonight, the role will be played by an actual purple planet-eating humanoid Goliath and not a storm cloud of nothing. More than that, they brought the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps with them, and boy, it looks phenomenal!

The latest trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps appeared out of nowhere, just like Sue Storm, and my goodness it looks amazing. Before breaking it down, witness it in all its glory here:

So I’m going to say this looks awesome. Having someone like Pedro Pascal, who is a phenomenal actor and seems to be crushing it as Reed Richards, portraying the head of Marvel’s First Family is incredibly refreshing. However, what is getting me so excited, much to the chagrin of so many spectators writing angry comments right now, is the MCU debut of Shalla-Bal’s Silver Surfer.

Julia Garner is a phenomenal actor, and I’m happy we’re getting Shalla-Bal because we’ve already seen the Norrin Radd story on the big screen. This will bring us something new both aesthetically and from a narrative standpoint. Furthermore, the selection hammers in the fact that The Fantastic Four are living in a parallel universe to The Sacred 616 Timeline (aka the main MCU). So I imagine there is a Norrin Rad in 616 somewhere, but this universe has Shalla-Bal.

Additionally, let’s be honest with ourselves. Apart from Alicia Masters and Sue Storm, and eventually Valeria Richards, the Fantastic Four mythos doesn’t quite pass the The Bechdel Test. So having an additional strong female presence here is welcome. Sorry haters. Deal with it!

In any case, the trailer itself looks out of this world! I simply cannot wait to see this play out onscreen! It’ll be a triumph for POCs, female representation, and most of all, Nerds waiting years to finally see an excellent adaptation of these characters on the biggest screen possible. You can bet I’ll be seeing this in IMAX just to see a life-sized Galactus try and devour me!

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters July 25!
