Fantastic Fun with Quinta Brunson, Giancarlo Esposito, and the Directors of ‘The Cat in the Hat’

The Cat in the Hat is back! And this time, he’s taking all of us on a fun and funny trip to his world, in a new animated comedy, hitting theaters this Friday! We recently brought you our interview with stars Bill Hader, America Ferrera, and Xochitl Gomez (which quickly devolved into chaos and contagious uncontrollable laughter). Now we’re pleased to bring our conversations with co-stars Quinta Brunson, Giancarlo Esposito, and the directors and writers behind the imaginative re-imagination of the classic tail tale, Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni!

Fun and imagination are exactly what we’ve come to expect from Dr. Seuss. However, there’s also an additional layer of innocence and insight that comes with every single one of his stories. Oftentimes, finding the balance in all of those elements can be difficult when adapting his world. However in the hands of Rivinoja and Carloni, The Cat in the Hat manages to walk that line with grace and affection, adding themes about parenthood and the challenges of growing up in a poignant and relevant manner, that adds to the universality of the classic tale.

With a pitch perfect cast that includes Brunson and Esposito, as well as leads Hader, Gomez, and Ferrera, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s first attempt at bringing the Seussian story to life is surprisingly successful. Which is why it was a true honor to chat with Rivinoja, Carloni, Brunson, and Esposito about how they managed to take a 60-page children’s picture book, and transform it into a movie with so much imagination and heart.

Plus it felt amazing to hear Brunson give The Nerds of Color a shout out!

Take a look at what they all had to say right here:
