BIO: Jemarc-Van Axinto is the CEO of We Are Heroes Productions LLC. We Are Heroes was founded off of the notion that “anyone can be their own hero”. As an adult, he read back through the stories he used to write as a child and noticed one glaring issue with every single story. Every lead character was a cishet, white boy. This was due to the fact that there was minimal representation of BIPOC, and especially Filipino people within all of the media he consumed in the US.

Jemarc’s goal with We Are Heroes is to change the narrative, by encouraging his team to push themselves on narrative possibilities separate from what the status quo dictates. This started with their flagship production, Tabletop For the End of the World (TFEW). TFEW takes the format of an actual play Dungeons and Dragons podcast and adds a twist. The podcast features four survivors in a Post-Apocalyptic Corporatocracy where the affluent and influential and plugged into a virtual reality system, ignorant of the world that has fallen apart, and the Unplugged poor are forced to live in squalor and oppression. The four survivors find comfort in an ancient game called Dungeons and Dragons and get swept up in a revolution. Jemarc co-runs the podcast with his best friend Mitch Monin, who plays the role of Dungeon Master. Meanwhile Jemarc writes the Dystopian Metta Narrative in which he satirically critiques present day America through the lens of Science fiction and plays the role of Twilight, the Gender-fluid Tiefling bard.

TFEW features LGBTQ+ characters, and actors, as well as BIPOC actors and characters. Since its launch in August 2018 the podcast has grown to have an international audience from the US to Norway and the UK, and boasts a 4.9/5 stars on iTunes and a perfect 5 star rating on Podchaser. Jemarc has also insisted that the platform We Are Heroes has built be used as a means of giving back. Every year the podcast donates a percentage of their profits to a chosen charity. In 2018 and 2019 they sold Pride tees and donated 50% – 100% of all profits to the National Center for Transgender Equality. In 2020 10% of all profits are being donated in support of Black Lives Matter.

Ultimately, Jemarc wants to create art, and use that art to make a difference. He doesn’t believe in waiting to “make it big” to give back, and he also doesn’t believe in sacrificing his beliefs in hopes of gaining a “larger audience.” We Are Heroes Productions never censures speaking up and speaking out for what is right and just and they always seek to work with diverse groups of people to increase representation.
