Seeing the vast wonders of the Quantum Realm in the Ant-Man film franchise was inevitable. We first heard of it in the titlular film, and then Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) spent some time trapped inside of it for five years — or was it five hours — after Thanos snapped half of life away. Now the new trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania gives us a look at how unusual this realm is and how dangerous it can be when a villain like Kang the Conquerer (Jonathan Majors) intends to extend his mighty hand beyond the very tiny world.

Played against Elton John’s “Good-bye Yellow Brick Road,” the first trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania literally takes the Langs and Pyms out of their comfortable world on 616 and into a place they hardly know. Set after the events of Endgame, Scott is now adjusting to life as an ex-con and Avenger, but is often mistaken for Spider-Man. But he finds himself having to become the size-manipulation hero once more when Cassie’s (Kathryn Netwon) device that communicates with the Quantum realm goes haywire, and pulls everyone, including herself, and her father, along with Hope Van Dyne ( Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) into the Quantum realm.

While Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp were focused on the heist aspects and more focused on Scott Lang’s story, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is more of a family affair as attempts to help make up for that lost time when Scott and Janet were respectively seperated from their loved ones because they were trapped in the Quantum Realm.

However, those that attended the San Diego Comic-Con and the D23 Expo earlier this year will notice how different those trailers were to the one that was released today. For one thing, there were a few scenes swapped out and replaced. There’s no Modok, and Bill Muarry’s character doesn’t speak, and we don’t get to hear Kang ask Scott/Ant-Man if he’s killed him before. Instead, this trailer shows a lot of the Quantum Realm’s civilization, as well as a few of the creatures that we will run into in the film.

But the trailer indicates that this is more than just a sequel about heroes finding their way home, as Kang extends an offer to an unseen character. “I can get you home and give you more time if you help me.” Since we don’t know who he is saying this to or when it takes place, we’ll just have to assume that the decision whether or not to help will have an affect on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, 2022.
