Get ready to return to The World of John Wick! Ballerina opens up in theaters this Friday! And to celebrate we were able to sit down with the cast and director of this awesome, ass-kicking epic! We’d love to start by bringing to you the amazing badass woman behind the badass woman, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, who plays Nogi, the mentor of Ana de Armas’ Eve, aka “The Ballerina.”
The John Wick franchise has always been amazing about representation. It started with Keanu Reeves, and now it’s growing and extending into amazing Latino representation with de Armas, but also Black representation through Duncan-Brewster’s character Nogi. It’s also a thrilling action film that proves that guys aren’t the only ones who can shoot-em-up! Ballerina is packed with amazing female empowerment, incredible, brutal action, and strong messages about family and sisterhood.
This is really where Nogi comes in! When Eve Macarro is orphaned at a young age, she is taken in by the Ruska Roma — John Wick’s family. She is taken under Nogi’s wing, as the badass mentor trains the young lady to become one of the deadliest on-screen assassins of all time! However, as Nogi emphasizes, Eve isn’t just there to kill; she’s there to protect as well. So what happens when Eve’s thirst for revenge blinds her to those responsibilities and makes her willing to compromise the safety of the entire Ruska Roma? Only Duncan-Brewster knows! Here’s what she had to say about Nogi and her relationship with Eve:
We have one more set of interviews coming up for Ballerina, including a chat with director Len Wiseman and actor David Castañeda!
Ballerina blasts its way into theaters this Friday, June 6!
