Rhodes Goes Through Some Self-Discovery in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

In Avengers: Infinity War, we see snippets of Colonoel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) return as War Machine in his battle against Thanos. But, when we last left Rhodes, he was beaten and  battered from the results of Captain America: Civil War. We saw Rhodes learning how to walk again.

“Thanks Vision,” jokes Cheadle during the Avengers: Infinity War press conference.

Cheadle then explained that Rhodes will go through some personal journeys from  outcome of Civil War, “What I think is really great about having something like this in a way to anchor a lot of other things happening in the story and getting to continue it forward through both the films is that we always get to have these sort of down-notes in a good way. I think there’s always a lot of eye candy and very dramatic things happening and big spectacular fights and these amazing things that we see on screen, and then it comes down to these characters and their interpersonal situations and their personal journeys that they have. And, when it comes to Rhody. I’m glad that this is something that is carried through and it wasn’t just dropped. It’s a line that actually goes through both the films and comes into play in a very important way.”

Of course, Cheadle could not go into detail, due to the Russo Brothers watching the cast like hawks.

“I won’t give it away but something that factors in all the way through,” said Cheadle. “So it’s something nice that is cohesive and continues and keeps me grounded and keeps the character grounded.”

Avengers: Infinity War premieres on Friday, April 27.
