New ‘Wonka’ Trailer Teases A Candy Coated War Between the Haves and the Have-Nots

The Willy Wonka, played by the late Gene Wilder, that most of us know was an enigmatic man who hatched an elaborate plan to pass his candy company to a child by disguising it as a factory tour. In reality, the tour tested each of their integrities, and he would base his decision on which one was the most honest and deserving. But before all of that, he was just a humble dreamer who wanted to share his innovative candy concoctions with the world. Now, a newly released trailer gives us a better look at the man who would change the candy making industry by providing to those who were less-fortunate, all the while starting a war with the rich candy company CEOs.

From Paul King, writer/director of the Paddington films, David Heyman, producer of Harry Potter, Gravity, Fantastic Beasts and Paddington, and producers Alexandra Derbyshire (the Paddington films, Jurassic World: Dominion) and Luke Kelly (Roald Dahl’s The Witches), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor.  Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time — proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.

Chalamet is joined by newcomer Calah Lane, who plays as Noodle, a young child who helps Wonka build what would eventually be his new candy empire. The rest of the ensemble cast includes Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.

Wonka opens in theaters on December 15, 2023.
